Jesus Christ has radically changed Rick’s life. He passionately believes in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the living hope that God provides for us today. Rick holds a firm conviction that Jesus has provided the grace alone that both saves us eternally and empowers us to live life as God designed- until He comes again. In addition, he believes that the Bible is the authoritative, inspired, and sufficient source of counsel to address life’s issues, and be the foundational standard for our faith and practice.
The Lord Jesus Christ saved Rick at the age of eight, as he prayed repenting of his sin and placing faith in Jesus. His family life was experienced on the east coast of the United States. As a teenager, the fondest memories of walking with Jesus are recalled through the church planting ministry of the New England Bible Church. The burden of the Lord to receive biblical training and serve in ministry flowed out of being baptized in the eleventh grade and pursuing ministry opportunities to serve in his church. After Rick shared publically the desire to begin biblical and theological training, Grandpa Walton shared a recorded letter written from his Grandmother, and read at her funeral. She has been with Jesus, since Rick was five. Her prayer was for God to call him into the ministry to serve and support the local church.
God has opened the doors for Rick to train through the New Brunswick Bible Institute (B.T.S. & A.B.M.) studying theology and pastoral care; Christian Counseling Services in sexual abuse and issues in an abusive society; Luther Rice Seminary and University (B.A.R.M.) completing studies in religion and pastoral ministry; and ongoing training with Christian Counseling Education Foundation in biblical counseling. He is currently completing training through Institute of Bible Counseling and Discipleship.
Rick has developed seasoned experience driven by his faith in Jesus and strengths given by God. He has served in pastoral ministry, biblical counseling, and the non-profit sector for over ten years. Most recent to joining our pastoral team at CBC, God has given Rick opportunity to serve within the ministry of Harvest Bible Chapel in London, while working in the business community. His family attended regularly, and served in various capacities: 1) Small Group Leadership- bringing the entire family together with others in the church. The small group provided opportunity to live out our faith together in bible study, prayer, and accountability. In addition, they were able to serve one another, the church and community together. His children have been able to participate in serving with the small group and other functions. 2) Biblical Counseling- the Senior Pastor of Harvest London encouraged Rick to begin a biblical counseling ministry. This encouragement and support birthed “Safe Harbour Counseling” located in London. God has graciously used this ministry to provide counsel for personal and career needs. In addition, God has brought opportunities to work with ministries to help assess strategic direction, alignment, and future planning. 3) The Cross Current- serving as a board member with a ministry based in London that trains by example churches to normalize sharing their faith in Jesus Christ.
In addition, he has worked in retail management, account management, and sales for over thirteen years. This experience has seasoned him from the front lines to senior management. Rick has been a successful leader- achieving “Top Performer of the Year” in sales, and “Best Store Operations” means that he knows the importance of a collaborative and consultative approach, drivers that produce good operational rhythms, and how to win as a team.
Rick’s heart desire is to serve our God within local church ministry leadership, and focus using his strengths in administration, pastor-teacher, and exhortation. These strengths flow out of an authentic expression of Jesus Christ’s love, spiritual gifting, faithfulness to the Scriptures, and relating through life experience with a view to establish consistent growth in discipleship to glorify God. As the Pastor of Administration, God can connect his passion and talents; which will result in seeing people become followers of Jesus, and grow in their walk of faith in Jesus through worship, authentic discipleship, and active service. May God receive all the glory and honor.
Rick joins our church family with his wife (Teresa), son (William), and daughter (Hanna).
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I
who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now
live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved me and gave himself for me.”
– Galatians 2:20, ESV
